英文摘要 | The paper reports circadian characteristics of sound production in Japanese croaker (Argyrosomus japonicus). The study was carried out in Penghu from January 1996 to March 1997. A. japonicus produced a 'drumming sound' composed of trains of 9~23 pulses with 178 msec~386 msec duration, sound frequency was as high as 3 kHz, with a dominant frequency in 200Hz~800Hz. Diel changes in sound production were recorded continuously for 72 hours each season. Maximum daily sound production occurred between 1800 and 2400 hr. It is suggested that the Japanese croakers are nocturnal fishes with the higher activity during nighttime. |
