英文摘要 | Integration of recent bathymetric data with available regionalscale geologic and geophysical data from Taiwan suggests a new interpretation for the kinematics of the propagation of the collision and for the pre-collision zone south of Taiwan. In the pre-collision zone, a regional-scale, east-dipping normal fault is proposed to form the steep gradient in bathymetry, magnetics and gravity, and accommodates exhumation of the accretionary prism. In addition, the orogen-parallel component of the oblique plate convergence vector is inferred to be accommodated by two, left- stepping, left-lateral strike-slip faults within the accretionary prism, as it is the collisional zone exposed on Taiwan. These two fault segments appear to be separated by a small pull-apart basin, which forms a local sedimentary basin within the accretionary prism. At the same time, the prism itself is tectonically exhumed along the east-dipping normal fault. The basin may therefore provide a temporary site of deposition for sediments derived from forearc highs exposed to both the north and south. As these sediments are re-incorporated into the accretionary prism, they could be redeposited as olistostromes. The Lichi and Kenting melanges may have formed in a similar tectonic setting. |
