英文摘要 | In England, teachers' appraisal is one part of the OFSTED inspection. The content for inspections includes: the quality of the education provided by the school; the educational standards achieved in the school; whether the financial resources made available to the school are managed efficiently; and the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils at the school. The impact of OFSTED inspection can be generated: 1. When the inspectors observed teachers' teaching, the teachers confronted pressure in class. 2. Teachers against OFSTED inspection because they thought the inspectors did nor inform them a fixed time before entering their classrooms. 3. The objectivity of OFSTED inspection was challenged by teachers. 4. Teachers did not receive feedback from the inspectors as they expected. Finally, the researcher tried to explore the possibilities of conducting teachers' appraisal in Taiwan and the possible difficulties we may face. The researcher suggests: 1. We have to educate teachers the proper attitude towards teachers' appraisal. 2. Urban and rural differences between schools should be taken into consideration when the teachers' appraisal is conducted. 3. Whether teachers' appraisal will be carried out alone or it will become part of the school inspection needs a well plan beforehand. 4. We have to train the inspectors and the staff who will assist to carry on the teachers' appraisal. 5. Teachers' appraisal needs funding and support from the central government. 6. After appraisal, we have to design the INSET programme for the teachers in order to develop their professional ability in teaching. |
