英文摘要 | In the traditional ESL instruction, the close connection between reading and writing has not been fully recognized. While reading is traditionally regarded as a passive process focusing on retrieving main ideas or information from a reading passage, writing is an isolated and independent activity whose purpose is to provide students with opportunities to express themselves in the target language or to activate their knowledge about the target language. In recent years, the drastic change of the theoretical view on the nature of reading has given rise to a renewed interest in the study of the close relationship between reading and writing. The idea that reading, like writing, is a dynamic process of constructing reading has led researchers to reinvestigate the possibility of integrating reading and writing in ESL instruction. The purpose of this paper is providing an overview of this issue. To fully explore this issue, the paper is divided into three parts. The first part presents theoretical studies on the correlations between reading and writing. The second part explores the ways to take advantage of this reading- writing connection in ESL instruction. The last part suggests strategies for integrating writing into reading and reading into writing. |
