英文摘要 | Rice is the major food crop in Taiwan. The recorded history of rice cultivation in Taiwan dated back to the Ming Dynasty (17�� century) though the evidence of carbonized paddy grains could be traced back to 3,000 to 4,000 BC. During the period, upland rice varieties were firstly cultivated by the aboriginal peoples of Taiwan. Rice varieties were further diversified following the immigration movement of Hans from China and the occupancy of Japanese during the past 400 years. Up to now, a total of 4,100 rice accessions was collected and conserved at the Taiwan Agricultural Research lnstitute. Oryza sativa L. varieties are the major cultivars. The Sinica race (Japonica, Keng), including waxy and nonwaxy, is predominant. Three monographs on the rice varieties of Taiwan have been published in 1959,1964 and 1987,respectively. |
