英文摘要 | This paper presents for the first time a successful �渙r/�觠r dating study of a mylonite zone in a gneiss body in the Tananao Schist near the Hoping area, eastern Taiwan. The mylonite zone, resulting from ductile deformation related to the mountain building in Taiwan, is about 6 meters wide and consists abundantly of finegrained biotites. Biotite separates from nine samples of the sheared gneiss body yield well-defined plateau dates ranging from 4.1 to 3.0 Ma. Whereas petrographic and microstructural observations reveal that grain size of the biotites decreases as degree of the ductile deformation increases, no apparent covariation exists between the age data and the above two parameters. Therefore, the biotite dates represent neither the cooling nor resetting ages of the gneiss body, and are considered to indicate the timing of the mylonitization which lasted for over 1 m.y.. Thus, the hinterland of the Taiwan Mountain Belt might have experienced an extensive internal deformation during 4.1-3.0 Ma, and hence has been unlikely a rigid body throughout the mountain building processes. These age data enable us to better constrain the nature and timing of the kinematic evolution of the Taiwan Mountain Belt created by the arc-continent collision. |
