英文摘要 | Numerous strong motion records from sites near moderately large earthquakes have shown complex radiation patterns probably due to the characteristics of focal mechanisms and to the inhomogeneity of structures which are crossed by ray paths. The effects of the various rupture processes of the fault planes on the excitation of Rayleigh waves were, therefore, investigated in this study using three-dimensional finite element simulations. The source parameters, including the rupture type, rupture velocity, slip distribution and the slip direction, were modeled for the purposes of comparing the characteristics of the originated Rayleigh waves. From an examination of the ellipticity variations of waveforms, the critical epicentral distances for Rayleigh wave initialization have been found to be approximately in the range of 14 to 20 km for most of the faultings on a 10 km long by 4 km wide rectangular vertical fault plane in which the center of the fault plane is 5 km in depth. In addition, based on the results obtained by comparing the amplitudes and the critical distances to initialize short period surface waves, it has been determined that the rake of slip is the most important parameter in the generation of Rayleigh waves. In addition, this article discusses the directivity and the effects of rupture velocity. |
