英文摘要 | Background: Urinary tract infections (UTI) are a common problem in children. Tc-99m dimmer-captosuccinic acid (DMSA) renal scan has been reported to have higher sensitivity than other diagnostic modalities for diagnosing renal paren-chymal infection. Methods: We evaluated a total of 40 primary (n= 22) and recurrent (n=18) cases of UTlin children by Tc-99m DMSA renal scan to examine the rate of scan abnormalities. The results correlated with voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) for the relation between the DMSA scan and the presence of vesico-ureteral reflux (VUR). Results: The DMSA scan and VCUG abnormality rate were much higher in the recurrent UTI group than in the primary UTI group. Most of patients with abnormal DMSA scan results also had VUR. The VUR in all patients of the recurrent UTI group and in half those of the primary UTI group were high grade (grade III-V). Conclusions: Children less than 3 years of age with recurrent UTI had a high frequency of Tc-99m DMSA renal scan abnormalities, and these usually coexisted with high grade VUR. |
