中文摘要 | 本研究的目的是探討五種不同學習風格「learning styles)及特質(分別各含有 兩個對應特徵-內/外向、聽/視覺、左/右腦、曖昧情況忍受度高/低、男/ 女性)學生對「廣泛閱讀」(extensive reading)英文教學活動的態度,並比較各類 型中具相對特徵同學的看法是否有統計上的差異;研究選取中興大學外文系2個 大一英文班級的53位同學為研究對象,經過一學期的「廣泛閱讀」英語教學活動 ,期末以問卷調查他(她)們的看法,並以評量表判定學生的學習風格與特質, 問卷及評量表回收52份,回收率98%。研究結果發現多數參與研究的學生對「廣 泛閱讀」英語教學活動所持的態度是正面的,且無論是內向或外向、聽覺或視覺 、左腦或右腦、曖昧情況忍受度高或低、及不同性別的學生,看法幾乎相當一致 ;七成以上的同學表示「廣泛閱讀」英語教學活動較不令人厭煩,因而較偏愛這 種學習活動,並認為「廣泛閱讀」英語教學活動有助於增進英文字彙及改善英文 能力,也可以督促他(她)們花費更多時間與精力研讀英文;然而,有將近六成 的同學對「廣泛閱讀」可以增進其英文文法知能持較保留的態度。本研究建議國 內英文教師可以將「廣泛閱讀」適度結合「精讀」教學活動,以提升學生學習興 趣,進而幫助學生增進英文能力。 |
英文摘要 | The present study aims at investigating whether there are statistical differences among five different learning-style (introversion/extroversion, tolerant/intolerant of ambiguity, visual/auditory, left-/right-brain, and male/female) DFLL freshmen's attitudes towards extensive reading. Questionnaire and learning-style assessment instruments were used to collect data from 52 foreign-language majors of 2 Freshman English classes after one-semester's implementation of extensive-reading activities. This represents a return rate of 98 percent from 53 participants. It was found that most students' reflections on extensive-reading activities were positive. The opinions of different learning-style students were statistically similar. More than 70 percent of the respondents suggested that extensive-reading activities were less boring and they liked it more. They also considered extensive-readung activities helpful in improving their vocabulary and overall English competence. Nevertheless, about 60 percent of the participants were not sure or disagreed about the usefulness of extensive reading for their grammar knowledge. It is recommended that teachers of English in Taiwan can integrate extensive reading into intensive reading activities to motivate learning and improve students' English competence. |
