| 英文摘要 | Background: Tissue polypeptide specific antigen (TPS) is a new tumor marker for immunoassay used to quantify the cell proliferation activity associated with all stages of tumor development. Before its clinical use, the normal serum values must be established. This study evaluated the TPS levels of different genders and ages in healthy Chinese subjects. Methods: Two hundred and seventy-six healthy Chinese subiects (117 men, 159 women, 19-77 years of age) were included. The serum levels of TPS were evaluated by immunoradiometric assay method. Results: The mean TPS level in healthy Chinese males was 157.8±151.0 U/L; in females, it was 96.2±119.6 U/L. The difference between males and females was statistically significant (p < 0.05). In addition, no significant differences were noted among different age groups in males (≦40 years, 195.3±166.7; 41-60 years, 158.0±156.7; >60 years, 128.1±117.4 U/L). Significant differences (p < 0.05) did, however, exist among different age groups in females (≦40 years, 60.9±66.5; 41-60 years, 108.31±130.8; >60 years, 175.8±165.5 U/L). The serum levels of TPS in these Chinese subjects were higher than those reported in healthy Caucasians (41±32 U/L). Conclusions: Our preliminary results suggest age and sex of patients should be considered when using TPS as a tumor marker. Ethnicity may also be an important factor affecting the serum level of TPS. |
