英文摘要 | Many recent Taiwan leadership-related studies have indicated that a great majority of people in leadership positions are not fully aware of the requirement of the roles as leaders. Consequently, schools at all levels are presently “overmanaged” and “underled”. To comprethensively understand and effectively alleviate negative consequences due to this problem, this paper is designed to contain six interrelated parts, with different topics presented in each ones. It starts with some long-existing educational problems leading to the misconception of leadership. Through illustrating five representative studies which analyze some major conceptual and behavioral differences between leaders and managers, this paper thereby yield a more clear picture regarding leader’s and manager’s values, characteristics, attitudes towards others, and sense of self. In addition, the third part further synthesize the previous five studies through some specified content comparison. To avoid a misunderstanding that leaders are superior to managers and to establish a concept that leadership and management are two equally important and interdependent parts in any organizations, the fourth part then has its focus on harmonizing these two areas through the emergence of the “beneficial competition” model. Furthermore, the fifth part presents some applications and limitations of the previous comparisons, attempting to yield some guidelines and directions for future studies. At last, this paper conceptualizes leadership and management as two coexisted power forces and draws its conclusion that any school can fulfill its ultimate goal of successful transformation only through collaboratively and wisely utilizing the “heterogeneous tension” between these two driving forces. |
