中文摘要 | 每一個社會都希望能夠教育青年學子,使之符合社會規範及禁忌等。而最基本的 文化機構便是學校。 社會教育學家歐文.高夫曼 (Erving Goffman. 1992-) 在「教濟院」 (Asylums) 一書中所提到的「整體公共社福機構」 (Total Institutions) 理論模式中,他 倡導由公共社福機構 (如學校、醫院等 ) 來決定哪一種模式適合個人, 然後強制他或她在 此模式之下學習。此機構決定每一個受教育者的角色或任務的方式和內容。高夫曼認為機構 或老師應有完全的權力來自由控制他 / 她的成員或學員, 並且使他們能順從本機構或老師 所期望的角色及行為。教育已經再次成為明顯的父眾論題。有史以來一直爭論的頭條新聞便 是「甚麼才是好學校﹖」我們需要好學校,好老師。但是到底有沒有呢﹖這的確是一個值得 從不同層面來爭辯的論題。本文便是探討歐文.高夫曼的「整體公共社福機構」理論模式與 學校的關係與應用。 |
英文摘要 | Every society tries to socialize its young into the societal rules, roles, taboos, prescriptions, and proscriptions. The primary agency of acculturation is school. In the Goffman model of total institutions, the institution determines what pattern it wishes for the individual and then forces that pattern on him or her. The institution determines the form and content of the role to which the member actor is to be acculturated. Goffman thinks that the institution/teacher has total power over his/her member actors. S/he wants to bring the member actors into conformity with behavior consistent with the role expectations of the institution. Education has, once again, become a prominent public issue. The historic and continuing debate over what makes school good id front-page news. We need good shcools and good teachers. Do we have them ﹖ That is the subject of considerable debate from differing perspectives. This paper tends to briefly discuss and analyze the relation between Erving Goffman's "Total institution" model and the school. |
