中文摘要 | 本研究的目的在探討人─境適應理論、價值相似理論及文化同化及統整理論對於留美學生生活及心理適應的預測程度。 本研究的受試者乃留美大學學生及修習必修課程的美籍學生,留美學生填答個人特質資料表,實際及知覺羅基價值問卷及密西根留美學生問題量表,而美籍學生則填答羅基價值問卷,以提供文化價值分析的對照資料。 研究者發現留美學生與美籍學生價值觀愈相近,適應則愈好; 而愈能知覺其與美籍學生價值間的差異,適應則愈好;留美學生正確知覺美國人價值觀與其在美國的適應有正向的關係;英語能力也與其在美適應有很高的正相關;至於在美停留期間,則呈"U"型曲線相關,亦即在適應上先有興奮期,一段長時間的低谷期,而後才能逐漸適應,以上結果,使研究者預設理論大致得到支持。 |
英文摘要 | The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which intercultural (International and American) value similarity (i.e. Actual Value Similarity, Perceived Value Similarity, and Accuracy of Value Perception) and selected personal characteristics are relevant to the explanation of international students' life and psycho-social adjustment. The subjects for this study were undergraduate international students enrolled at the University. Each respondent completed a questionnaire packet including a Personal Date Form (PDF), the Rokeach Value Survey (RVS), and the Michigan student volunteers were selected from required undergraduate courses to provide comparison data identifying American rankings of values (Rokeach Value Survey) for the inter-cultural similarity analysis. The major findings were: 1.The greater the Actual Value Similarity (AVS) between American and International students, the better the Psycho-Social (PSA) and Student Life Adjustment (SLA) made by international students. 2. Moderate levels of actual inter-cultural value similarity (AVS) were not associated with international students' Psycho-Social and Student Life Adjustment. 3. Higher levels of perceived difference (low Perceived Value similarity) between Americans' and international students' values were associated with better international students' Psycho-Social and Student Life Adjsutments. 4. Moderate levels of perceived inter-cultural value similarity (PVS) were not associated with international students' Psycho-Social and Student Life adjustments. 5. The degree of accurate perception of American values (AVP) by international students had a positive statistically significant relationship with international students' Psycho-Social and Student Life Adjustments. 6. English Language Proficiency Was strongly and positively related to international students' adjustment. 7. There was a "U"curve relationship between Length of Stay and Student Life Adjustment. 8. Gender, Age, Marital Status did not have statistically significant influence on international students' adjustment. 9. Students from Africa and the Middle East were inclined to have greater Adjustment Problems. |
