# 330 1$a Graduate students are educated to engage in advanced academic research. They are in the period full physical development; however, their personalitiy traits and mental health are affected by advisors, classmates, environments, research equipment, and atmosphere. To compare the differences and understand the real situation, the graduate students of physical education in National Taiwan Normal University, National College of Physical Education in Taiwan, Tsukuba University in Japan, and Japan University of Physical Education were asked to take the Y-G and U-K tests from May to December, 1992. The data obtained from these tests were used to compare the differences of personality types and mental health among these four universities. The results from this study were shown as follows: (1)According to the results of the U-K test, the personality types of both Chinese and Japanese graduate students were mostly split-type, nervous-typed or excited-depressed-type. However, there were some differences among the universities. In National Taiwan Normal University, there were six students for the split type (31.7%), four students each for the nervous, excited-depressed, and adhesive types (63.3%)' in National College of P.E. in Taiwan, eight students belonged to the split type (33.4%) and three each to the excited-depressed and inner-stable types (50%). Four students of Japan University of P.E. belonged to the split type, which accounted for the most percentage (40%). Form the results of the Y-G test, most students belonged to the D-type system. Seven and four students in National Taiwan Normal University were in the D-type (39%) and AD-type (22%) systems respectively. In National College of P.E. in Taiwan, nine students were AD-type (33.3%) and four students each were in the D-type, A-type, and E-type systems (44.4%). There were five, four, and three students of Tsukuba University in the D-type (35.7%), A-type (28.3%), and AC-type systems respectively. In Japan University of P.E., there were respectively four, two, and two students belonged to the D-type (40%), AB-type (20%) and AC-type (20%) systems. (2)As to the mental health, most graduate students were in the average range. There were seven, four, three, and three above-average-mental-health students in Tsukuba University (58.3%), National Taiwan Normal University (21.1%), National College of P.E. in Taiwan (11.1%), and Japan University of P.E. (10%), respectively. ON the other hand, there were respectively one, one, four, and three below-average-menal-health students in Tsukuba University (8.3%), Japan University of P.E. (10%), National College of P.E. (14.8%), and National Taiwan Normal University (15.8%). On the basis of the above-mentioned results, most universities needed to improve the teaching and research environments and to enhance students' mental health, except the Kotoh's research group in Tsukuba University. |
