英文摘要 | Designing structural component from brittle ceramics relies strongly on the availability of accurate data base. However, the strength of ceramic components is usually scattered seriously. Therefore, considerable amount of specimens are usually needed to evaluate the mean strength and their distribution. In the present study, the effect of specimen number on the evaluation of character isticstrength and Weibull modulus is investigated experimentally. The strength of 102 alumina specimens are measured. To evaluate the effect of specimen number, certain number of specimens are chosenrandomly from the 102 measured values, then the characteristic strength and Weibull modulus of the chosen specimens are calculated. The analysis suggests that the reliability of the characteristic strength and Weibull modulus is increased with increasing specimen number. As the number of specimens issmall, serious misleading results may be obtained. |
