英文摘要 | The purpose of this study was to explore the inservice teacher education (ISTE) programs for elementary teachers in the Republic of China. The study sought to answer questions relating to inservice education (ISE) theories, audlt education (AE) theories and the presently practiced ISTE programs. The procedure used was to peruse the literature, analyze it, and survey the opinions of 500 principals and teachers regarding selected research questions. Multivariate analysis of variance was used to determine whether there are statistically significant differences between the mean attitude scores of the two groups of subjects. The findings indicated that there was no difference of opinion between principals and teachers as to the purposes of ISTE, the development of ISE concepts and what AE theories should be used in ISTE programs. There was a significant difference of opinion, however, between principals and teachers as to what should be practiced in ISTE programs. The subjects had positive attitudes in reference to the purposes of ISTE, the development of ISE concepts, what AE theories should be used in ISTE programs and what should be practiced in ISTE programs. There was considerable agreement concerning the findings of this study using Chinese subjects with those findings in the literature regarding subjects in other countries. Other studies reveal that the theory of AE is important and an appropriate basis for conducting ISTE programs. Thus, AE theories, including andragogy, have broad application to other cultures including that of the Republic of China. Several practical applications are also provided. |
