英文摘要 | A total of 60 three-way-cross castrated young boars (LxYxD), weighing 19.71 kg averagely, was used and assigned randomly to 12 pens with 5 pigs each. After being fed ad libitum for 14 days, pigs of each pen, averaging approximately 31.46 kg, were ranged with rank order individually. Then, every two pens of pigs were randomly mixed together as one pen and allotted to one of the following two treatments. Each treatment consisted of three replicates and each replicate was observed for 24 hours continuously. Treatment 1. A high environmental temperature was maintained. Pigs from two different groups were moved from a growing-finishing house to a 30°C temperature-controlled chamber and mixed together. Treatment 1. A 20°C environmental temperature was maintained. Pigs from two different groups were moved from a growing-finishing house to a 20°C temperature controlled chamber and mixed together. The behavior categories observed included general behavior and fighting behavior. The winner and the loser of the fighting were noted. The results of this experiment indicate that pigs mixed in 30°C treatment drank more frequently than those in 20°C treatment (P<0.05), besides pigs in 30°C spent more time resting when compared to those penned in the 20°C chamber (P<0.05). Of total fighting events, pigs of the 20°C treatment had a higher frequency than those of the 30°C treatment did, but the results did not reach a significant level (P>0.05). Pigs maintained at 20°C used biting and butting more frequently when fighting (P<0.05 and P<0.01, respectively), while the others maintained at 30°C preferred to use knocking (P<0.05). Analysis of the behavior of individual pigs shows that the social rank of pigs before mixing did not have a significant effect of drinking frequency within 24 hours after mixing (P>0.05). But both urinating and defecating frequencies of high social rank pigs were higher than those of the low social rank ones (P<0.05). With regard to fighting, the frequencies for high rank pigs were significantly higher than for the low rank ones (P<0.05), and the number of winning fights of the first rank pigs was also the highest in the experiment (P<0.05). When compared to the other pigs, pigs of the first and third ranks before mixing preferred to use a biting technique for fighting (P<0.05). |
