英文摘要 | The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the result of political socialization among junior high school students, to examine the school factors that influence the result, and to understand tne relation between the result and the influencing factors. In the present study, both the content analysis and the survey research method are employed. After reading related literature, disciplinary regulations, standard curricula for junior high schools, textbooks for Chinese Literature, and textbooks for Civics and Moral Education, the researcher first edited "A Classified Political Subjects in Junior High School Textbooks," and then made a content analysis of the textbooks for both Chinese Literature, and Civics and Moral Education in order to understand the objectives of political socialization in junior high schools. Next, "The Questionnaire for Adolescent Civics Education" edited by the researcher was administered among 1,607 junior high school students in 12 randomly selected public and private junior high schools. The questionnaire data collected were then submitted to both the Chi-square test and the one-way ANOVA to analyze subject responses under different test items. Through a comprehensive comparison between the results derived from the content analysis and the survey research come the following conclusions: 1. The objectives, the content, and the ideals of political socialization in junior high schools are clearand sound. 2. Different aspects of political socialization are stressed in the textbooks for Chinese Literature,and for Civic and Moral Education respectively. 3. Junior high school students tend to have an unequal amount of experience in serving thc class and the school clubs. 4. The school climate has not fully realizedthe ideals of democracy. 5. Though disciplinary activities are well designed and implemented, a systematic and integrated arrangement is needed in order to yield better results 6. Many a student fails to have a thorough grasp of the spirit of democracy. 7. The student's symbolic association of the government is best represented by the Three People's Principles, and then the constitutions, the national anthem, and the national flag. If considering them as a whole, the sequence is as follows: the political leaders, the patterns of political ideologies, and the political institutions. 8. A certain percentage of junior high school students would like to reside abroad permanently, but they are willing to come back and fight for the country when it is in danger. 9. Though the students take friendly attitudes towards the allied nations, their understanding of these nations needs improving. 10. The student's law-abiding attitudes are rationalized, but their outward behaviors need cultivation. 11. Most students know how to make their ideas of suggestions known to the school. authority, but they seldom do so. On the other hand, the school authority tends to ignore student suggestions. 12. Sex and educational background of parents are important factors that influence the individual political socialization; however, domicile of origin is not an important variable. 13. The factors that influence political socialization can be listed, in the sequence of importance, as follows: the type of schools, disciplinary activities, experience in serving the class, class climate, and experience in serving the school clubs Based on the conclusions, the following recommendations are made: 1. A systematic content analysis is necessary in order to better understand how the textbooks are actually taught in the classroom. 2. The content and proportion of political socialization in the textbooks should be so adjusted as to fit the current need of our country. 3. The student should be trained to distinguish between the nation and the government in order to enhance his love for his country. 4. Due attention should be paid to the total environment of the school in order to create a good educational setting. 5. Be aware of the limitations of the role the school is playing in political socialization so that other media may be used to help achieve the end. 6. Continuing education should be offered to persons in charge of disciplinary education in order to improve their quality and capability. 7. Be careful in enacting the law and be strict in executing it so as to cultivate the law-abiding habit of the citizens. 8. More qualitative research should be encouraged in order to obtain more fruitful results. |
