英文摘要 | The purpose of this research is to analyse the contents of civic education and its related courses of our elementary and secondary schools and the findings will be used as reference for the editing and design of such curriculum and its related teaching materials. To complete this goal, I use the content analysis as the major method of my research, supplemented by document discussion and method of historical research. Generally, the civic education has two definitions, namely, the broad definition and the narrow definition. But the definition of my research is: "Schools of defferent levels are using the civic education and the teaching materials of the related "courses and activities to increase and strengthen the senses of responsibility and honor of students, with a purpose that they will become the modern people of tomorrow with good moral character, new knowledge and skills, and right attitude." Therefore, the scope of analysis is extended to cover many related courses taught in our elementary schools, such as moral education, social education, health education, Chinese, group activity, and mental guidance; even including some related courses of our secondary schools, like civic and moral education, health education, Chinese, history, geography,. training of scouts, and supervision activity. Upon a perusal of the related documents, laws and stipulations, curriculums and textbooks of our elementary and secondary schools, I am inclined to believe that the civic education is an interdisciplinary course, composed of six levels, such as the moral, law, politic, economic, social, and cultural levels. For making the further analysis in this research, each of these levels will be divided into several items in accordance with its contents and by reference to our existing political and social situations and the physical and mental development of our. elementary and secondary school students. On basis of the findings from the document discussion and content analysis; the conclusions of this research are brought as follows: 1. The civic education of our elementary and secondary schools has a cleargoal, broad scope and supreme ideal. 2. The civic education of our elementary and secondary schools has made an emphasis on the consistency of the 9-year compulsory education and the close connection of teaching materials. 3. The civic education of our elementary and secondary schools seems to give more emphasis on the social, moral, and political levels, with a result that the law, cultural and economic levels are somewhat neglected. 4. The teaching materials of civic education concerned with the health education of out elementary and secondary schools are centered on the "social level." 5. The teaching materials of civic education concerned with the Chinese of our elementary and. secondary schools are focused on the "moral" and "political" levels. 6. Some parts of the teaching materials of the history and geography of our elementary and secondary schools are too petty, multitudinous, and out of time, unable to meet the requirements of our present situation. 7. The moral level contained in the civic education of our elementary and secondary schools in inclined to emphasize the moral and ethic of an individual so that the promotion of the public moral is not as much. as expected. 8. The social level contained in the civic education of our elementary and secondary schools is centered on the life education. 9. The political level contained in the civic education of our elementary and secondary schools is mainly used to shape the patriotism and nationalism of an individual. 10. The law level contained in the civic education of our elementary and secondary schools in less in quantity. 11. The economic level contained in the civic education of our elementary and secondary: schools is also less in quantity, especially in the fields of the environmental education, consumers' education, and economic ethics. 12. The cultural level contained in the civic education of our elementary and secondary schools is just as less as that of the above said levels, particularly short of introduction to the relgious ideas. According to the above listed findings of my research, I would like to present some suggestions as follows: 1. A systematic analysis and research on the contents of civic education shall be promoted and its contents and amounts defined. 2. The course of life and ethics and the social course shall be conbined together as one course in order to establish the consistency of civic education. 3. The proportion of the teaching materials of civic education of our elementary and secondary schools shall be adjusted so as to meet the requirements of our society and nation. 4. The teaching materials of history and geography of our elementary and secondary schools' shall be simplified and then supplemented with teaching materials concerning the provincialism and political geography of the mainland. 5. The teaching materials of public education shall be strengthened with a view shape the sense of responsibility and public-mindedness. 6. The teaching materials concerned with the social norm and education of population security shall be supplemented for the purpose of satisfying the growing needs of social development. 7. The teaching materials in relation to the democratic politics and education of democratic spirit shall be amplified to lay a sound foundation for the democratic politics. 8. To lay a good foundation for the democratic and legal society, it is essential to strengthen the teaching materials concerning the knowledge of law and formation of legal government. 9. The teaching materials concerned with the environmental education, consumers' education and economic and ethic education shall be reinforced to match the economic growth of the nation. 10. The value of religious education shall be re-evaluated and the teaching materials concerning the religious education moderately increased to meet the spiritual needs of the modern people. |
