| 英文摘要 | Based on an assumption that the gifted need adequate education to develop their talents, a research project was designed and carried on from 1971 to 1974 by the Graduate Institute of Education at Taiwan Normal Univeasity. On the directorship of the institute, the author was conducting the project and taking an approach to search methods for educating the gifted junior high school pupils other than teaching-material-centered style. Other approaches were also in processing heading to teaching for experimental classes, studying pupil abilities and learning processes, pupil personality characteristics, and pupil home background and social relations. After research mainly in educational styles for the gifted in the United States with a visit to several schools, the proposed educational style for the gifted junior high school pupils in China were made as follows: I. Grouping within Class. In an ordinary class, pupils are grouped according to ability levels. Criteria for grouping may be academic achievement, testing results, and teachers' ratings. Teaching methods consist instructions in general and individual group guidance. II. Material Enrichment for Special Class. The methods are: 1) grouping pupils in accordance with learning ability and academic achievement in course-studies that high ability pupils can learn more materials than low abillity pupils; 2) Teacher selects and arranges appropriate supplementary materials for teaching in class in terms of pupil abilities and learning results; 3) More assignments for extracurriculum activities. III. Acceleration of Special Class. Two approaches can be taken: 1) After identifying and grouping gifted elementary school pupils in special class, for fixed teaching muterials, in combination with junior high school, as the pupils learn faster than the less gifted, they may shorten their school year from nine to eight; 2) After identification and grouping the gifted junior high school pupils in special class, combining it with senior high school and shorten school year from six to five. On-either approach, flexibility and adjustment must be made available for pupils in special class transferring to average class or pupils in average class to a special one. Teaching methods for the proposed classes were suggested in separate research reports. |
