英文摘要 | This study had four purposes: (1) to explore the self-concept - of gifted children, (2) to investigate the emotional stability of gifted children, (3) to probe the correlation between the self-concept of all subjects and their emotional stability, (4) to –check the va1idity of popular assumptions concerning gifted children and offer a possible way for helping gifted children cultivate a wholesome personality. The sample in this study was selected from among the first-year students Kin-Hwa and Ta-An junior middle schools in Taipei, with 105 gifted students as the main subjects and another 105 average students as auxiliary subjects for comparison. For the sake of accuracy, the differences between these two groups of subjects with regards to sex, age, and socio-economic level were obliterated. The researcher himself developed a “Self-Concept Rating Scale” and applied to evaluate the self-concept of the subjects, and made use of a “Stability and Impulsivity Scale”, a “Self-Reliance Scale” and a “Nervous Symptoms Scale” to measure the emotional stability of the subjects. Analysis of the data in this study revealed the following findings: 1. The gifted children had a significantly superiorer subjective self to the average children. 2 . The gifted children also had somewhat significantly superiorer ideal self to the average children. 3. The marks obtained by the gifted children on the “Stability and Impulsivity Scale” were significantly higher than those by the average children. 4. The marks obtained by the gifted children on the “Self-Reliance Scale” were higher, without any great significance, than those by the average children. 5. The marks obtained by the gifted children by on the “Nervous Symptoms Scale” were significantly higher than toose by the average children. 6. There was a correlation between the subjective self and the emotional stability of all the subjects. 7. The correlation between the ideal self and the emotional stability of all the subjects was not so significant. These findings suggest the following conclusions: 1. The gifted children have more superior self-concept than the average children. 2. The gifted children have higher emotional stability –than the average children. 3. The subjective self and the emotional stability of all the subjects correlate, while their ideal self and their emotiorial stability bear nearly no correlation. 4. In teaching gifted children, it seems necessary to (1) enrich the substance of learning, (2) encourage originality, and (3) I strengtnen individual guidance. |
