| 英文摘要 | This paper uses historical materials such as Huizhou documents to re-examine issues such as the registration of military households, military household succession, sharing military service, and the disposition of military property in Huizhou prefecture during the Ming Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, military service was a hereditary burden which was borne for the descendants of a household for generations. Military households feared military service, and members of military households residing at the family's place of origin were in constant conflict with and those stationed at military guards and battalions. Some households failed to manage their military obligations successfully, and within two or three generations they had lost their land, there was no one to fulfill military duties, and the household had become "extinct". Some military households set up collectively held agricultural land to support the household's military service. They used wills and contracts to stipulate how their military obligations would be met. Lineage property used to support military service gradually became a source of lineage unity, and contracts stipulating military obligations were a precursor to contracts distributing various other service obligations. This provides further evidence of the influence of the military household system on civilian society. |
