| 英文摘要 | Ma Yifu was the founding figure of modern neo-Confucianism, and his invocation of the Buddhist doctrine to interpret the Laozi in his Commentary on Laozi can be summarized as follows: The ontology of the Laozi is interpreted through the idea of the Middle Way, the principle of the Laozi’s wuwei is revealed in the wuwo thought, and the nature and political practice of the Laozi’s Dao is viewed under the Huayan thought. Behind this book is Ma’s stance and concern in the face of the crisis of modern consciousness: He borrowed the Huayan teaching of the Six Arts to judge the teaching of books, and took the Confucian ideas of “cultivating virtue” and “practising the way” as the purpose of the Six Arts. From his Confucian perspective, Laozi gained the most from the Yijing, but also had more to “lose,” and he could not fully “see the nature,” as he “has only one eye.” Ma Yifu’s position is stated in his letter to Ye Zuowen: “I have turned away from the study of righteousness and Zen, and returned to the Six Classics; this is not something I have to hide.” |
