| 英文摘要 | Modern art in Taiwan after World War II largely continued the New Art Movement and local themes from the Japanese colonial period, while also integrating ink painting traditions brought by diasporic artists from mainland China. Between the 1950s and 1970s, new perspectives on modern Taiwanese painting began to take shape. Influenced by the diasporic experience of landing in a new place, émigré artists adopted strategies of “vertical inheritance and horizontal transplantation,”merging Chinese ink techniques with Western abstraction to localize modern art. Focusing on Chung-ray Fong (1934-), this study uses literature and visual analysis to examine the diasporic painter's involvement in the Fifth Moon Group and the Ton-Fan Group, as well as shifts in his creative approach across two phases of displacement and relocation. Fong's abstract paintings are characterized by breaking with tradition, material innovation, and meditative practice, through which he articulated a distinct aesthetic shaped by cross-cultural mobility. Guided by an experimental spirit, Fong continuously explored new materials, abstract languages, and expressive methods that transcended cultural and temporal boundaries. Through Fong's case, this study argues that diasporic experiences and cross-cultural practices are crucial for understanding postwar modern art in Taiwan. Fong's work demonstrates how multiple identities and artistic fluidity profoundly influenced the trajectory of Taiwan's art history, providing insight into the broader dynamics of cultural exchange and local adaptation in the postwar period. |
