| 英文摘要 | With the aging population and technological advancements, care robots have entered the long-term care sector, becoming part of daily life. To understand how robots fit into the operations of long-term care units and the mutual influence between humans and technology, this paper uses domestication theory to analyze the experience of using the Pepper robot in a long-term care unit in New Taipei City. It explores how the robot is used, why it is integrated or not into daily life, and the meanings users assign to the technology. This study adopts a qualitative research approach, employing interviews and purposive sampling of four elderly individuals, three caregivers, and one supervisor. The findings reveal that Pepper is not perceived as a cold technology but is endowed with a sense of life, becoming a "Roth (lóo-khì)" that bridges the gap with users. The positive attitudes of long-term care personnel towards technology facilitate the integration of robots into the care setting. However, the gap in the elderly's life experiences and the busy routines of the institution are obstacles to integration. In the long-term care setting, Pepper is not only seen as a companion or exercise leader, but is also transformed into a hub that connects the care unit with the local community, enhancing the image of long-term care services. As artifacts become privatized, users project imaginations onto technology, transforming its purpose and highlighting domestication's theoretical implications, where users change and give it new meanings. |
