| 英文摘要 | This study investigates the effects of foot bathing on relaxation and sleep quality during school midday breaks among adolescents. Adolescence is a critical period of rapid physical and psychological development, and insufficient sleep often results in decreased concentration, emotional instability, and reduced learning efficiency. In the context of Taiwanese schools, where students frequently experience inadequate midday rest due to academic pressure and late-night habits, identifying safe, simple, and low-cost interventions has become an important issue. Both traditional medicine and contemporary empirical research suggest that foot bathing can enhance blood circulation, regulate autonomic nervous function, and increase relaxation, thereby improving sleep quality. Using a pre-test-post-test control group design, six adolescents participated in this study. The experimental group underwent a 10-minute warm spring foot bath, while the control group engaged in quiet sitting. Brainwave α-wave data were collected using the BrainLink Lite dynamic EEG device. Results indicated that, following the foot bath intervention, most participants demonstrated stabilized or elevated α-wave activity, reflecting enhanced relaxation and sustained mental vitality. Pulse measurements were also more stable or decreased in the foot bath condition, whereas they generally increased in the control condition, suggesting a deeper state of physical relaxation. Participants commonly reported improved feelings of relaxation and mental recovery after foot bathing, with more pronounced effects observed among students who were overweight or under greater stress. Preliminary findings suggest that foot bathing may be an effective strategy for promoting relaxation and sleep support during midday breaks in adolescents. The underlying mechanisms may involve stabilization of α-wave activity, reduction of pulse fluctuations, and enhancement of subjective comfort. Future studies should expand the sample size, incorporate long-term follow-up, and integrate additional physiological indicators to further validate the role of foot bathing in adolescent sleep management and health promotion. |
