| 英文摘要 | The Pacific Islands Region in the central and western Pacific has not been the focus of contemporary international politics in the past few decades due to its remoteness and low economic development. However, as the competition among great powers in the Indo-Pacific region has increased in recent years, the geographical value of the Pacific Islands region as a maritime transportation hub connecting the Pacific and Indian Oceans has been highlighted. Therefore, many neighboring countries, including the United States and China, are involved in regional affairs there actively. The United States has a long-standing relationship with Pacific Island countries. In recent years, under the background of implementing the "Indo-Pacific Strategy", the U.S. government has made further efforts to enhance cooperation with island countries and formulate exclusive strategies for them. This article has examined the content of the U.S. strategy for the Pacific Islands Region and used the "Balance of Threat Theory" in international relations studies to analyze its significance. The study results revealed that China's diplomatic activities there already posed potential security threats to the United States and became the main motivation for the U.S. government to formulate a specific regional strategy. The U.S. government has tried to balance China through various tactical approaches in recent years and has achieved certain results. In the foreseeable future, the strategic competition between the United States and China will continue to profoundly affect the situation in the Pacific Islands region and the security of neighboring countries. |
