| 英文摘要 | In the study of the Bible translation, the historical development of notes in the Chinese Bible have been less discussed in the past. This paper aimed to explore the number and contents of 21 Chinese Bibles (1803~1919), the background information and contents of 61 single-volume or multi-volume Chinese Bibles with notes through statistical and documentary analysis. This paper also investigated the Gospel of Matthew (Matai fu yin 馬太福音) by analyzing and comparing the contents of the Gospel of Matthew with Guxin shengjing and those of the three Chinese Bibles with notes. The Chinese Bible has had a large number of notes since the Poirot's Chinese Bible (Guxin shengjing 古新聖經). However, after the arrival of Protestant missionaries in China, the number of notes in the Chinese translation of The Old Testament and The New Testament was significantly decreased due to the principle of "Without Note or Comment" of the British and Foreign Bible Society. To meet the needs of evangelization, many missionaries have compiled and published single or multi-volume Chinese Bibles with notes since the time of Milne. The Bible Society has had to issue Chinese Bibles with notes and increase the number of notes on the Bible in response to the trend. Our study revealed that the translators wanted to use the notes of Bible to cross the gap of language and cultural, so that readers could read and understand the Bible, thus achieving the effect of evangelization and making believers understand the doctrine. This results also demonstrates the importance of the notes on the Bible. |
