中文摘要 | Thomas Tate所著《教育哲學:教學的原理與實務》(The Philosophy of Education or, the Principles and Practice of Teaching)於1857年在英國出版,成為繼1651年Sir Henry Wotton《教育哲學探究》(A Philosophical survey of Education)後的系統著作。但過去的教育哲學家,甚至教育史學家對Thomas Tate都普遍缺乏關注。哲學與教育哲學研究需要追求學術的嚴謹性,需要不斷重回歷史現場,需要打破封閉獨斷。本文研究目的是重拾Tate《教育哲學》成書時的英國教育哲學發展背景,重新詮釋Tate《教育哲學》中蘊涵的教育哲學理念,並評析如下:一、就理論層面而言,Tate《教育哲學》對教學原理與方法的闡述,是建基於Bacon的歸納哲學,與Locke所主張培養兒童官能發展的教;二、就實務層面而言,Tate具備多年實際從事教育工作的實務經歷,他一方面主張把教學原理運用於實際教學中,同時也將可促進教育實務工作的學校組織和紀律訓練看作教育哲學的一部分;三、Tate所著《教育哲學》是教育哲學史上第一本以「教育哲學」為書名的英文專著,因其官能心理學的立場而遭時人忽略,Tate注重Bacon歸納方法,承襲Locke的教育理念,主張教育工作應有科學研究基礎,而非只是教師個人經驗累積,應得到學界更多的關注與討論。 |
英文摘要 | Thomas Tate's The Philosophy of Education: or, the Principles and Practice of Teaching was published in the Great Britain in 1857, and it was the next systematic literary work after Sir Henry Wotton's A Philosophical Survey of Education in 1651. However, educational philosophers and historians generally lacked attention to Thomas Tate's work throughout the ages. The purpose of this article is to reinterpret the concepts and ideas of education educational philosophy contained in The Philosophy of Education by exploring the background in the development of British educational philosophy during the time, Tate wrote the book , The following criticisms affirmations were made: i. From a theoretical point of view, Tate's The Philosophy of Education expounded the teaching principles and methods based on Bacon's inductive philosophy and Locke's educational methods for cultivating the development of children's faculties; ii. In terms of practice, Tate had many years of practical experience in education, and he advocated applying teaching principles to education. At the same time, he perceived school organization and discipline that can promote educational practice as iii. The Philosophy of Education was the first systematic literary work with Philosophy of Education as the title in the history of educational philosophy, but was ignored because of his position in the faculty of psychology. Tate paid attention to Bacon's induction method, inherited Locke's philosophy of education, and advocated that educational work should be based on scientific research rather than just the accumulation of teachers' personal experience. His academic contributions were rare and deserves more attention and discussion. |
