英文摘要 | In 1997, Hong Kong broke away from British colonial rule and returned to China. However, the CCP violated the political commitment of the Sino-British Joint Declaration to maintain Hong Kong's capitalist system and way of life unchanged for 50 years under the principle of "One Country Two Systems," has been tightening its political control, and causing dissatisfaction among the Hong Kong people who rose many large-scale protests which causing impacts on political, economic and social development, and damage its international image in the meanwhile These have also led to changes in the identity of Hong Kong people. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact of the change in Hong Kong people's identity on Hong Kong's political development after the CCP took over the sovereign of Hong Kong, first through literature reviews to study the correlation between legitimacy and identity, and then to conduct a questionnaire survey of Hong Kong people to understand the main factors affecting Hong Kong people's sense of identity. This paper finds that education level, place of birth, and length of residence are the main factors affecting Hong Kong people's sense of belonging. Also, a series of high-pressure political measures by Beijing and the Hong Kong government have enhanced Hong Kong people's identity and reduced Hong Kong people's recognition of the government, indicating that Hong Kong people's identity and political development are inextricably linked. |
