中文摘要 | 體驗式學習在臺灣廣泛應用於各階段的學校教育,過去研究中曾指出體驗式學習的過程需大量的時間與精力,本教學實踐以新規劃的「蔬菜病害」課程為例,在全英語教學環境下,導入體驗式學習,將課程活化為適合不同領域大學生的通識課程。研究中的外籍學生對於全英語專業課程內容不感到過於困難,而少部分臺灣學生在全英語教學環境的學習上具有挑戰。在課程設計上,學生被要求自行種植蔬菜,實現學習理論中具體經驗、反思觀察、抽象概念化及主動實踐之循環,除授課教師外,由助教、修課學生、非修課學生及校外專家作為協力者參與課程互動,而安排學校農場實地參訪的體驗,則可連結地方本位教育的概念,深化學習印象——這些運用體驗學習的教學實踐經驗可供各階段課程規劃借鏡參考,幫助提升全英語教學及通識教育的教學成效。 |
英文摘要 | Conversion of a Specialized Course into Liberal Education in an English-medium Instruction Environment Through Experiential Learning: A Case Study in the Course of Vegetable Diseases Experiential learning is widely used in school education at all stages in Taiwan. Previous studies have established that the process of experiential learning can demand a considerable amount of time and effort. In the current teaching practice, we introduced experiential learning in the newly designed "Vegetable Diseases" course and converted the content into those suitable for liberal education in an English-medium instruction (EMI) environment. The international students in the study did not have difficulty in the EMI subjects, whereas some Taiwanese students faced challenges in the EMI environment. The students were tasked with cultivating vegetables, linked with the learning cycle of concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation. Additional to the teacher, the interactive course collaborators were the teaching assistant, students in/out of the class, and invited specialists. A visit to the farm on the campus was organized to link with place-based education, and the learners were exposed to impressive experiences. The use of experiential learning in the teaching practice can be an example for future curriculum design, improving the teaching and learning outcomes of EMI and liberal education. |
