中文摘要 | 不論在一般大學或技職體系,閱讀專業科目原文書已是大學生求學過程中不可或缺的能力,然精熟此能力需要長時間的努力,因此學習動機不可或缺。為求深入瞭解學生,本研究從動機與閱讀能力兩方面,並細分英語與非英語相關二層面,共運用四種研究工具,檢視兩種學制下學生的現況。結果發現學生的特性極不相同,且動機與閱讀能力的關係不如一般預期的直接。此外,技職生的能力與動機間關聯較一般大學生顯著。各項結果均有重要的教學啟示。 |
英文摘要 | Reading subject-matter material in English has become part of college students’ academic requirement in general and vocational universities. Strong motivation is needed in mastering EAP reading because this requires long-term efforts. In order to better understand student characteristics, this study focused on motivation and reading proficiency in EFL-specific and non-EFL-specific areas and compared university students between vocational and general education systems. The results showed that the two groups of students were significantly different in all areas examined. There are four major findings. First, contrary to common-sense beliefs, high achievement was not accompanied by high motivation and vice versa. Second, EFL learning motivation was strongly correlated with general academic motivation for both groups, suggesting that we may treat EFL as a school subject and seek implications from educational theories. Third, no correlation was found between EFL and L1 reading proficiency for the two groups. Finally, vocational students’ EFL reading comprehension, but not general students’, was significantly related to motivation. |
