英文摘要 | ABSTRACT System-on-Chip (SoC) is a single integrated circuit (IC) that uses processors, memories, analog circuits, and some customized digital logic circuits to “glue” a system. As the IC industry migrates to the SoC era, a business model, the SoC design service, is emerging; it aims to finish the SoC specification design, or the SoC circuit design, the rest of the procedures used in the processes required for SoC commercialization through the intensive use of the most advanced IC/SoC technologies, specialized SoC design, layout, and manufacturing skills, as well as domain knowledge. While the SoC design service market is emerging, the competence set expansions with Open Innovation success and thus the scale, revenue and profitability of the late-coming SoC design service firms always are limited. Therefore, attempts to enhance the innovation competences, and thus the competitiveness, of latecomers in the SoC design service industry through Open R&D strategies and finally the achievement of Open Innovation success already have become the most critical issue facing the top managers of SoC design service firms. In this paper, a hybrid analytic framework based on the concept of competence set expansion, as well as hybrid multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) methods, will be proposed in order to redefine a late-coming SoC design service firm’s organizational boundaries by building innovation competences through Open R&D strategies. Finally, the proposed Open R&D strategies are presented for the late coming design service firms’ innovation competence expansion. An empirical study on defining Open R&D strategies, and thus expanding innovation competence sets, of late-coming Taiwanese design service firms then will be presented. Based on the analytic results, the proposed Open R&D strategies, license, joint venture and alliance as well as acquisition can achieve the Open Innovation goal of design service firms while internal R&D is still essential for achieving Open Innovation. The results also verified the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed hybrid MCDM techniques. |
