中文摘要 | 眾所皆知,字彙能力攸關整體英語能力之發展;但大多數技職院校學生卻因為低字彙能力及字彙量 造成英語學習的焦慮與挫折。因此,本研究針對德霖技術學院英語系學生進行字彙學習調查,來了解他 們字彙表現、學習態度、困難、與策略使用,並探索這些因素間之相互關係。本研究結果指出大多數德 霖英語主修生尚未習得充分字彙能力或發展出解決學習困難之有效策略;他們字彙學習的主要困難在於 如何保留字彙記憶以及辨解單字意義用法的複雜性;雖然德霖英語主修生了解字彙學習的重要性,卻沒 有因此而付出努力練習字彙學習活動,且經常性的使用機械式的重複口說或者是手寫拼出單字來學習英 語字彙。本研究建議應推動英語學習策略教學提供有趣的單字學習活動以及字彙策略練習來提高德霖英 語系學生字彙學習成就。 |
英文摘要 | Vocabulary competence has long been recognized as crucial to developing all aspects of English proficiency. However, the majority of Taiwanese polytechnic college students suffer from anxiety and frustration in learning English because of their low vocabulary power and limited vocabulary size. Therefore, this study conducted a survey to sketch the vocabulary learning of English majors at De Lin Institute of Technology in order to understand their vocabulary performance, learning attitudes, difficulties, and strategy use and to explore the interrelationships among these variables. The survey results from the test scores and the questionnaire data indicated that the majority of De Lin English majors have not acquired adequate vocabulary competence or developed effective strategies for dealing with their difficulties. The main problems in learning English vocabulary for the overall De Lin English majors concerned the retention of word meaning as well as the intrinsic complexity of meanings and usage associated with individual words. Though De Lin English majors realized the importance of vocabulary learning, they were reluctant to making efforts in learning activities and habitually used shallower strategies of repetition of mechanical drills to remember the words required for their tests. Therefore, more effective vocabulary instruction should be implemented to engage these English majors in interesting word learning activities and strategy use practices for their long term vocabulary achievements. |
