英文摘要 | Taiwan is located at the eastern margin of the Eurasian Plate. Formation of this island was closely related to the subduction of the Philippines Sea plate under the Eurasian plate to the north and the collision between the Luzon arc and the Asian continent to the west. Since the Cenozoic Era, intra-plate volcanism related to continental rifting has prevailed within the passive continental margin. The western foothills of Taiwan and the neighboring islets of the Penghu Islands (Penghu) were inevitably affected by such tectonic events. Therefore, volcanic eruptions in the Taiwan region can be classified into northern, eastern and western provinces. Miocene volcanism prevailed among the Penghu Islands, thus belongs to the western volcanic province. The Penghu Islands were located in the Peikang Highland (Peikan Massif) in the middle of the Taiwan Strait which is relatively stable. Less affected by Quaternary Taiwan Orogeny, the volcanic landforms are well preserved. Combined with a broad tidal flat, the outcrops represent an opportunity for low craters study whereby they are classified as lava pools, rings rims, lava diatreme, volcanic neck-crater-diatreme, tuff diatreme and maars. According the surface topography and composition of volcanic materials, they can be further subdivided into 19 types. |
