中文摘要 | 本研究以化學物質詞彙的翻譯為主題。嘗試從英語構詞學的角度,彙整常用於化學物質詞彙中的詞根與詞綴,並試圖建立化學物質詞彙的翻譯模式:首先解析出英語化學物質詞彙的詞根與詞綴,接著進行詞根與詞綴直譯,再依中文化學物質詞彙習慣名稱進行調整,建立化學物質詞彙翻譯的步驟;並將化學物質詞彙翻譯歸納為直譯、直譯倒裝及特殊類型等三種類型。本研究並以某科技大學化學工程系的兩班學生為對象,進行教學實證研究。從前測的結果顯示受測學生雖學習化學多年,但對專業的化學物質英語詞彙的知識仍是極為不足。而從後測的結果顯示,經由系統化歸納學物質詞彙常見之詞綴、詞根與化學物質詞彙詞綴變化的介紹,是有助於提升受測的學生在其專業化學物質英語詞彙的認知。 |
英文摘要 | The main purpose of this paper is to address the issue of translating English chemical terms into Chinese. With the knowledge of morphology, word roots and affixes used frequently in English chemical terms are collected and classified. A translation process is also recommended for how to translate English chemical terms. The process consists of three steps as follows: (1) analyze word roots or affixes of an English chemical term, (2) translate each root or affix directly or literally into Chinese, and (3) adjust the wording of the term based on the usage of Chinese. Three methods of translation on English chemical terms are further categorized as direct translation, direct translation with inversion, and special cases. To empirically prove the effectiveness of applying such a translation approach in classroom settings, two classes of students from the Chemical Engineering Department at a university of science and technology were selected as subjects. Among them, sophomore students served as an experimental group, while juniors served as a control group. The pre-test showed that chemical engineering majors in Taiwan's vocational education system were short of the knowledge of English chemical terms. However, the post-test results demonstrated that this translation approach had a positive effect on teaching English chemical terms. |
