英文摘要 | Chromium, an essential micronutrient, is necessary for health and various physiological functions. Chromium-deficient subject has been shown to have impaired carbohydrate metabolism. Furthermore, dietary chromium supplementation may be beneficial for subjects with diabetic hyperglycemia. However, whether diabetic subject has less chromium availability remains unconcluded. This study was to measure plasma chromium concentration in type2 diabetic patients and to evaluate the correlation between this mineral and the values of glucose and insulin. Overnight-fasting blood samples obtained from 15 male diabetic patients and 15 healthy controls, recruited from out-patient clinic and from the staff of a medical center respectively, were collected, then plasma glucose, insulin and chromium concentrations were determined. The result showed that there was no significant different in plasma chromium status between diabetic patients and their normal controls. Our data also showed that plasma chromium level did not have any correlation with the values of BMI, glucose or insulin. In summary, the results of this study indicated that our diabetic patients did not have chromium-deficient state. Further study to establish the efficacy of chromium supplementation is still needed before any recommendation can be made for subjects with diabetic hyperglycemia. |
