| 英文摘要 | About the origin and name of V□ts□putr□ya, we used the term V□ts□putra as a keyword for analysis through three kinds of evidence; Canons on both, Northern and Southern Tradition, context appeared on the reliquaries, and some associated research. We have been convinced that, from Kath□vatthu, during the time of King A□oka, the Buddhist order was silently disunited because of the difference in the interpretations of the Buddha’s teaching though the community was still called Therav□da. The difference originally emerged among leaders(Theras) who influenced each region of India in which afterward the Buddhist order was divided into sects. We have made two assumptions here; first, the name of each sect might be named after the name of its leader, second the name of leaders might relate to the names appeared on the reliquaries and the name of Buddhist missionaries. Based on these two assumptions, the following show pairs of the Buddhist missionaries or Theras appeared on the reliquaries and the corresponding sect names; K□sapagota and Kassapika, Dhammarakkhita and Dhammaguttika, Mah□deva and andhaka, Madhy□ntika and Ka□m□r Sarv□stivadin, finally V□chiputa (V□ts□putra) and V□ts□putr□y□. These evidences support our assumption and suggest that the sect name called V□ts□putr□ya might be derived from the name of its leader, V□ts□putra. In addition, in the sect called Sammat□ya (sub-sect of V□ts□putr□ya), it was written that a monk called V□ts□putra was the one who revised the Buddha’s teaching resulting in a new sect. |
