中文摘要 | We utilize the Taiwan’s Manufacturing Census Data of 1981, 1986 and 1*991 to find major factors affecting Taiwanese Textile and Clothing firms’ exit and entry decision strategies. The empirical results reveal that the likelihood of firm’s death rate decreases in its employees scale and the rate of industrial switching out but increases with salary level and the rate of industrial switching in. the empirical consequence also implies that Taiwan’s Textile and Clothing industries had been very active yet competitive from 1981 to 1991. |
英文摘要 | To cope with the transformation of apparel industry towards globalization in production, apparel manufacturers have been adopting different roles in the supply chain and expanded beyond production functions. This paper, after reviewed the future of the business in Hong Kong, addresses the key variable of human capital, professional knowledge, from employers' perspective. Hong Kong apparel industry has changed their production strategies from “made in Hong Kong” to “made by Hong Kong” in the last three decades. A study, sponsored by the Hong Kong Institution of Textiles and Apparel, determined the dimension of professional knowledge that the education or professional institute should focus their teaching programmes on. The findings indicated the fundamental knowledge, apparel and texti1es technology, are still the most important professional knowledge to enhance employees' productivity while market knowledge which embrace the attributes of product development, market research and business knowledge are of lesser importance. For future business, however, marketing knowledge becomes the second most important knowledge that the employees should acquire. There is no significant difference between manufacturers and apparel trading firms in this respect that the business functions of these two sectors, indeed, are blurred. One-stop manufacturing service has been realised and manpower serving in the two sectors is interchangeable. |
