英文摘要 | Objective: Patients with chronic renal failure on maintenance hemodialysis have a high risk of viral infection. The reported prevalence of hepatitis G virus (HGV) viremia is high. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of HGV viremia in one hemodialysis center in eastern Taiwan and compare it with prevalences reported elsewhere. Patients and Methods: Serum samples were studied from 119 patients at a hemodialysis center in eastern Taiwan and HGV RNA was detected by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Results: Only one patient (0.84%) had HGV viremia. She was also infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and had high normal aminotransferases. Conclusion: HGV viremia was rare in this hemodialysis center in comparison with prevalences in healthy adults in other parts of Taiwan and aborigines in eastern Taiwan, and was much less prevalent than in other hemodialysis units in Taiwan. The reason for this requires further investigation. |
