英文摘要 | Open-field farming system is a very common agricultural system in Medieval England. It is characterized by two major sub-schemes: land scattering and input sharing. McCloskey explained the existence of land scattering from the perspective of risk. Cosgel utilized Edgeworth-box diagram of exchange theory in Economics to reveal why input sharing happened in Medieval England. By contrast, the rent contract between landlords and tenants is the main form in Former Han. The author follows Cosgel’s ideas and adopts the Edgeworth-box diagram to explain rent contracts in Former Han. Results show that more advanced agricultural technology of Han hustains masses of people. Land is thus much more valuable than manpower in Former Han. Input sharing of Medieval England in which tenants receive some level of fixed income and pay part of their crops did not happen in Former Han. |
