英文摘要 | A questionnaire was administered to Chinese first language speakers studying at various universities in Taiwan where some specific classes are conducted by foreign lecturers or professors in English. Students were asked to react to statements covering problems in the four language skills. This study had two main types of designs: the first one was based on interviews and questionnaires, the second on error analysis techniques. Questionnaire results indicated that the greatest number of the problems were related to speaking in public and writing essay in English. Plagiarism was admitted by many students and related to an inability to express opinions coupled with a lack of knowledge of when and how to quote. This study specifically focused on language and cultural problems faced by Chinese first language speakers at various Taiwan universities. Cultural differences are perhaps the most pervasion of the problems facing Chinese students. The scope of the project dealt solely with the creation of a model based on pertinent facts. The proposer believed that if exchange professors or foreign scholars were aware of specific problems facing Chinese speaking students, they would be in a better position to plan the methods of English teaching. |
