英文摘要 | In Taiwan society, "Intellectual Freedom in Libraries" is one strange vocabulary. Actually, the library in liberal and democratic civil society is not only one important public space where the constitution guarantee intellectual freedom, but also one important place that produces / reproduces ideas and values. The action of banning books or censorship is one unfair challenge for the liberal and democratic society. In fact, it is a synonym with eliminating freedom, intellectuality and civil rights. Two essential elements for opposing the challenge are the support from the general public and all librarians' self-discipline and self-examination. This is the only way to guarantee civil rights certainly. This paper focuses on "The Declaration of Intellectual Freedom in Libraries" in 1979 of Japan in addition to the support of the study of the study of the forming process and the contents of the idea on "Intellectual Freedom in Libraries" and "Freedom to Read", aims to examine the real meaning of "Intellectual Freedom in Libraries". |
