中文摘要 | 技專校院於民國九十學年度考招分離,入學考試中英文寫作首次採用測驗題型。 英文寫作能力是聽說讀寫四種語言能力中最少磨練的項目。由於寫作是文思的表達方式,中 西文化有固有的差異,加上中英文文句結構不同,英文寫作測驗題型是否能反應出實際寫作 實力有待研究探討,也是本文研究重點。 本文研究對象以美和技術學院應用外語科學生為主,做為期一年餘的追蹤調查,從測驗 題型、及傳統的作文作業取得寫作樣本,以逐句分析法,統計及分析錯誤類型。(非應用外 語系科的學生僅取得測驗題型的樣本。) 研究結果彙整發現,學生掌握英文基本寫作的能力偏低。文法觀念仍嫌不足。錯誤類型 最多的是最基本的文法句構,如主詞與動詞的一致性、時態、不完整的句子、未斷句等。美 和的學生向來入學英文成績偏低。學生思考仍以中文詞序套英文模式居多。足以做為英文教 師改進、調整及補強教學的參考。 |
英文摘要 | In 2001, the English writing test for the Joint Entrance Examination for Institutes of Science and Technology was redesigned and debuted to offer multiple-choice questions for admission to Institutes ot Technology and Universities of Science and Technology in Taiwan. English writing is the least practiced among the four "traditional" language skills. Since writing is a way of expressing oneself and Chinese and Western cultures demonstrate congenial dissimilarities in sentential structures, it seems sine qua non to explore whether student performance can reflect student competence in multiple-choice writing test. Subjects for this research project are basically students in the department of Applied Foreign Languages (AFL) at the Mei Ho Institute of Technology (Mei Ho). Writing samples are collected from two main sources for more than a year: results from written tests and writing assignments. Errors in writing samples are collected and categorized, then analyzed sentence by sentence. (Only test results are collected from on-AFL students at Mei Ho.) The results show that students still encounter difficulties in writing basic sentences. Many sentences are ungrammatical. Their errors are mostly very basic ones, such as subject-verb agreement, wrong tenses of verbs, sentence fragments, and run-on sentences among others. Mei Ho students have always achieved low competence in English when admitted. Students are still replacing English words with Chinese and in Chinese word order. Their learning outcomes will serve as a reference for improving, readjusting, and enhancing instructional contents and strategies. |
