英文摘要 | In this paper the author discusses Maritain's idea of art developed from the first four chapters of his Art and Scholasticism. The titles of these chapters are: 1. The Schoolmen and the Theory of Art, 2. The Speculative Order and the Practical Order, 3. Making and Doing, 4. Art an Intellectual virtue. Maritain did not discuss art as art in these four chapters. In contrary, he starts from traditional Scholastics to establish a Scholastic theory of art. In the first chapter of this book, Maritain searches some ideas in Scholasticism and Metaphysics in order to found a theory of art. In the second chapter, Maritain differentiates the speculative order and the practical order by means of intellectual virtues. In the third chapter, Maritain continues to differentiate the making and doing by means of practical intellect. The former is concerned with the goodness of a productive work, the latter with the goodness of the agent. In the fourth chapter, Maritain proposes a depiction of "Art is a habits of the practical intellect", and "Art and Prudence are virtues of Practical Intellect". As we see, the first three of four chapters are preparing a foundation of art, while is developed in the fourth chapter. These four chapters can be taken as a coherent unit. We can also conceive of art as a faculty of practical a foundation of art, while is developed in the fourth chapter. These four chapters can be taken as a coherent unit. It deserves attention, and special for those who are interested in the Scholastic theory of art. |
