英文摘要 | We tend to look at the impact of war in terms of nations: national victories or defeat, national glory or shame, national casualty figures, national statistics on property loss. But the impacts of warfare are not distributed so neatly. War has a disproportionate impact within any nation or society. Some parts suffer great losses, some psrts come through unscathed, or swathed in glory. The parts that suffer more look back on warfare with different feelings than the ones that suffer less, sometimes with pride, sometimes with feelings of exhaustion and despair, sometimes with feelings of injustice and bitterness. In a vast country such as China the burdens of war fall disproportionately. Some regions are fought over again and again, others escape unscathed. The region may be an economic one, a city-based region or a province. To understand the complexity of regional experiences of the Anti-Japanese War we first need narratives of the regions of China. This is an out1ine of the story of the impact of the Anti-Japanese War on Guangxi. It looks at the following topics: Guangxi’s military contributions, war mobilization at home, refugee movements into Guangxi, infrastructure modernization, casualties, the two Japanese invasions of the province, the end of political partisanship, the loss of leadership and the memory of War. |
