英文摘要 | This artic1e, based entirely on Flaubert'sMadame Bovary without 0ur references, is in tended to call the readers' attention to Flaubert'stechnique of creating a romance in which the fate of the main character Emma Rouault herself and that of susceptible persons around her are affected by Emma's hair. Emma's long black hair as described by Flaubertis so charming and glamorous as to become the emblem of her beauty that attracts Charles Bovary to marry her and other gentlemen, Rodolph and Leon, to have affairs with her. Charles Bovary is attracted by Emma's hair when he, a doctor, visits her father to set a broken leg for him. He marries that country girl, and Emma Rouault becomes Madame Bovary. Leon, a c1erk,is infatuated with Madame Bovary's hair when he meets her in the Vaubyessard ball. Rodolph is charmed by Madame Bovary's glamour because of her hair, and she also feels mesmerized by Rodolph's black locks. In the meantime there is another young gentleman, Justin, the pharmacist's assistant, who has all along been ready to succumb to Madame Bovary's beautiful tresses though he has no chance to do so. At the end of the novel, despite Madame Bovary's infidelities, her long black hair becomes a symbol of love at turns Charles Bovary into one of the greatest dreamers of love's bliss. |
