英文摘要 | A new layout style of standard cells is proposed to support the concept of using dual supply voltages for low-power and low-voltage cell-based VLSI designs. The layout of each standard cell possesses two power rails that can be fed with different supply voltages. Thus, existent EDA tools can support low-power IC designs utilizing the new cell library without doing voltage clustering at the physical design level. A program, called CRISP, is also developed to effectively use the cell library. CRISP will do cell replacemtn, using low-voltage-supplied gates, for those gates in non-critical paths. The new-type standard cells can be implemented with SPDM or SPTM CMOS technolgies. Meanwhile, the conceopt of using dual supply-voltages in the cell-based environment can also be combined with the MTCMOS technology in low-voltages VLSI designs. Benchmark circuits of ISCAS'85 and ICSAS'89 are designed and realized using the new cell library. The average improvement for power reduction is found up to 25.4% for those combination circuits. Test chips and an 8-bit μ -controller are also designed and fabricated to verify the usefulness of the new cell-based design environment. |
