英文摘要 | The difference between paired English tense and lax vowels, e.g./I, I/,is conventionally treated by English teachers in Taiwan in terms of length, i.e. long vowels vs. short vowels. However, English tense ad lax vowels exhibit contrast in both quality and duration. To capture objectively the characteristics of the pronunciation of English vowels, acoustic analyses should be offered to present information of vowel length, first formant frequency/F1, and second formant frequency/F2. This pilot study examines high vowel production of both Mandarin speakers and English speakers and provides statistical test of the spectrographic analysis. |
