英文摘要 | The purpose of this study was to identify socialization agents, contexts, and reasons of sport participation among active individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) in the United Kingdom. Data were collected by questionnaire from 143 British athletes with SCI currently participating in wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair tennis and wheelchair athletics. Disabled friends and peers were much more influential as introductory socialization agents than hospital therapists. The in- hospital rehabilitation program and specialized disability sport club were more important contexts for introducing the disability sport to athletes with SCI. In addition, the main reasons for athletes who participated in disability sports were for fitness, fun, health, and competition. Many athletes note that the reasons of social aspects and rehabilitation also influenced on their sport participation importantly. The results of this study may offer some directions for the improvement of rehabilitation programs for people with SCI and also help the development of appropriate strategies to encourage people with SCI to participate in sports, recreation and physical activities. |
